Guadalupe Shirt

The origins of Guadalupe are deeply rooted in religious history and cultural significance. The name "Guadalupe" is often associated with the Virgin of Guadalupe, a revered figure in Mexican Catholicism. The story dates back to 1531 when, according to tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared to a native Mexican named Juan Diego on the hill of Tepeyac, near present-day Mexico City. She spoke to him in his native Nahuatl language and instructed him to build a church in her honor. When Juan Diego relayed the message to the local bishop, he was initially skeptical. However, as a miraculous image of the Virgin appeared on Juan Diego's cloak (known as the "tilma"), the bishop was convinced of the divine nature of the apparition. The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe was eventually built on the site, becoming a symbol of Mexican identity and a major pilgrimage destination. The image of the Virgin of Guadalupe holds immense cultural and religious importance, embodying the fusion of indigenous beliefs with Catholicism in Mexico.

Dgk has a deep respect for history of Guadalupe, which is why we chose to feature her in a new collection.
